ALIGNMENT
ALIGNMENT
The only way that anyone can ride the efoil on water is with the correct alignment. From your head down to your toes, from the board to the foil, you need to find alignment. In our efoil lessons, we start with body alignment. This includes progression from a prone position to a standing position. Each of the steps along the way, the rider needs to be aligned; hips, knees, shoulders, feet, all have to be aligned to maintain balance. When we see a rider out of alignment, the board turns, or dives, or (worse case) launches out of the water. Only when you maintain the proper body alignment, do we see success in the progression to their feet. Our second step is to achieve alignment between the body and the board. Up until now, our students are maintaining a position forward of the board's center. Our final step before flying over the water is to align the body with the board. When this happens, controlling the efoil becomes very natural, and exciting. Often, our students state that their back leg is "burning" due to standing more on that leg. This is a clear example of the body NOT being aligned with the board. If you experience a burning sensation in one leg more than the other, you need to move your body, your entire stance, towards that leg. You are seeking alignment between your body and your board. The proper alignment of your body and your board will help you to enjoy a long and lasting ride. This too can be said about aligning your life with your creator. Aloha.
