IT’S ALL IN THE HIPS, BABY
IT’S ALL IN THE HIPS, BABY
We call it the “hip slide”, but we’ve had people suggest “hip sway”, “foil hula” and other weird ideas. The point is that the hips control the efoil board in the pitch axis.
HIPS BACKWARD TO GO UP
When you are ready to get the efoil off the water and onto the foil, you only need to move your hips slightly backward to achieve a nose-up attitude. This will bring your board onto foil. But don’t stay in that position too long.
HIPS FORWARD TO GO DOWN
As soon as you feel the board come off the water, start to move your hips forward to change the board to a nose-down attitude. Again, it doesn’t take much movement of your hips to get the board to start coming down.
WASH, RINSE, REPEAT
Do this exercise at least 10-20 times to get the feel of the board under the control of your hips. We call this “touch-n-go”, just like the airplane takeoff and landing exercises. Soon you will have complete confidence in your pitch control of your efoil.
Aloha. Have fun.
